Cosumnes River College (CRC) is offering over 70 scholarships to its students, with applications currently open until March 7. Students can apply online through the Los Rios Scholarships website, where they will be matched with scholarships that align with their needs and area of study.

To qualify for a scholarship at CRC, students must have completed at least six units and have a GPA of 2.5, according to the Los Rios Colleges Foundation. Student Support Assistant Pong Lor encourages students to apply, saying, “If students do meet the requirements, I recommend that they apply.”

Lor emphasises that many students fail to take advantage of scholarship opportunities, noting, “Sometimes you might get lucky and be the only student who does apply for it.” The available scholarships range from $250 to $6,400, and Lor urges students to apply early, saying, “The money is there to help students achieve their educational goals.”

Many scholarships require an essay or letter of recommendation. For example, the Veterans scholarship awards $2,000 to students and requires proof of veterans status and a letter of recommendation. Lor has already assisted students with applications that require references, saying, “It does make a difference on your education.”

Allahna Green, a 20-year-old undeclared major, is considering applying for scholarships and exploring her options. She notes that scholarships are a good way for students to receive assistance while building skills necessary for academic success.

Kaitlin Ngo, a 21-year-old early childhood education major, agrees that scholarships are beneficial, saying, “Scholarships are a good way for students to start setting academic goals for themselves.”

The variety of scholarships available caters to different student needs, such as the Trailblazer scholarship, which awards $500 to students in non-traditional majors. The Hawk Scholars scholarship, which awards $500 to formerly incarcerated students, aims to help students achieve their goals while earning their degrees.
