CBN, FAAN relocation: Tinubu to move NNPCL, NIMASA, NPA to Niger Delta

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is being moved to the Niger Delta, and Hon. Yekini Nabena, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged President Bola Tinubu to support the move.

According to ZINGTIE, the Federal Government had expressed interest in relocating several Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) ministries to Lagos State.

Leaders in the North, however, are against the development, which has sparked a great deal of debate.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Nabena stated that to support the decision to relocate certain CBN and FAAN departments outside of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development needs to be relocated to Benue State, which has an abundance of agricultural products.

The APC leader asserted that Tinubu did not think there was just one Nigeria before becoming president.

Nabena said that on April 11, 1997, Tinubu gave an interview titled “I don’t believe in one Nigeria – Tinubu.”

He insisted that the Administration provide a convincing explanation for the relocation of the two agencies in question rather than relying on the weak justifications offered up to this point.

He asserts that government agencies are to be protected since they are emblems of Nigerian unity.

Nabena said: “If efficiency of these agencies is the main reason for the plan to relocate them to Lagos State, we from the Niger Delta are also asking that the NNPCL, NIMASA, NPA and others will be more effective in either Bayelsa, Rivers or Delta states.

“In the same way, the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel should be moved to Kogi State where we have the Ajaokuta Steel for efficiency.

“I also believe that the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment should either be relocated to Kano or Anambra states where trade is done in high proportion.

“In the same way, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture should be taken to Benue State, the food basket of the bation.”

The Chieftain of the APC expressed surprise that the National Assembly was remaining silent about some events occurring in the nation, and he added that the leadership of the 10th Assembly needed to explain to the Nigerian people where the money they shared for Christmas originated from.

He said: “Nigeria is being looted within six months of this government and the National Assembly is keeping quiet as if nothing is happening.

“The National Assembly has not seen anything wrong in the Betta Edu scandal where billions of our patrimony is being played with.”
