Charity Donation Provides Essential Equipment for Neonatal Unit

A generous charity donation of £38,000 has been used to purchase 26 specialist trolleys for the neonatal unit at New Cross Hospital. The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT) charity funded the purchase of the trolleys, which will greatly benefit the unit’s patients and staff.

According to Katie Haywood, matron for neonatal services, “They will help standardise practice and storage of equipment, as well as reduce the risk of infection due to the design and closed drawer system.”

The specialist trolleys come equipped with five different coloured drawers, each serving a specific purpose. Four of the drawers are designated for parent care, allowing parents to store essential items for their baby’s care. The fifth drawer is reserved for staff care, providing a secure and organized space for medical professionals to store medications and other critical supplies.

“They will also enable us to support parent-led medications administration using the lockable green pharmacy drawer,” added Haywood

Aakriti, a first-time mother who recently spent time on the ward, praised the new trolleys. “They are lovely and helping with breast-feeding equipment storage and more space for me to store my baby’s belongings,” she said.

The donation and subsequent purchase of the specialist trolleys demonstrate the positive impact of charitable giving on healthcare services. The new equipment will undoubtedly enhance the care provided to newborns and their families at New Cross Hospital
