Charity Foundation Awards Record $70 Million to Ohio University.

Ohio University has announced a transformative $70 million gift from the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation, benefiting the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. This generous award allocates $45 million for research and up to $25 million for scholarships, contingent upon raising $25 million in matching funds.

The Osteopathic Heritage Foundation’s commitment brings its total support of the Heritage College to over $193 million. This gift launches Vision 2035, a 10-year strategic plan focused on reducing medical school debt and expanding translational research.

The funding will establish several endowed faculty positions, a new institute focused on aging, and a data science core. It will also support new equipment at the Heritage Translational Research Center and expand research opportunities for osteopathic medical students.

Over the next decade, the foundation’s support will provide annual scholarships to 100 additional students, reducing in-state tuition and fees by at least 50%. Students pursuing primary care or high-need specialties within Ohio may receive up to 100% tuition and fee coverage, potentially doubling the number of Heritage College students receiving scholarships.

According to Terri Donlin Huesman, president and CEO of the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation, “Our long-term partnership with the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine is integral to our mission to improve health and quality of life through education, research, and service consistent with our osteopathic heritage.” Huesman emphasized that this commitment aims to “substantially increase scholarships for medical students and strengthen the Heritage College’s research enterprise with a focus on discovery that leads to life-changing impact.”
