Veteran performer Charles Oputa, better known as Charly Boy, has shared his reaction to the Lagos State government’s move to rename the well-known Charly Boy Bus Stop in Bariga after rapper and Bariga native, Olamide Adedeji, also known as Olamide Baddo.

In response to the development during a conversation on Saturday, Charly Boy kept it brief, saying: “Na dem sabi.”

This change is part of a broader initiative by the state government to rename various streets and landmarks. The announcement was made during the commissioning of community projects in the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Friday.

Hon. Kolade David Alabi, the outgoing chairman of the LCDA, revealed these new names as part of his final actions in office.

In addition to renaming Charly Boy Bus Stop to Baddo Bus Stop, other locations within Bariga have also been renamed in recognition of prominent Nigerians, particularly from entertainment and sports.

Some of the newly renamed roads and streets include:

  • Ilaje Road, now named King Sunny Ade Road, after the Juju music icon.
  • Bariga Road, renamed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, in honor of the Nigerian President and former Lagos State Governor.
  • Community Road in Akoka is now Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road, recognizing the current governor.
  • Ajidagan Street has been changed to Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street.
  • Ifeanyi Street becomes Abolore Akande (9ice) Street, after the popular musician 9ice.
  • Ayodele Street in Ladi-Lak is now Tony Tetuila Street, celebrating the Afro-pop star.
  • Ilojo Crescent in Obanikoro is now known as Bukayo Saka Street, named after the Arsenal and England footballer of Nigerian heritage.

The renaming exercise has sparked a range of responses from users across social media platforms.

Ola, a user on X revealed that; “If the person behind this decision were truly born and raised in Bariga, they would know that the bus stop is actually known as Second Pedro Bus Stop—not Charly Boy Bus Stop. This is a clear example of how political bitterness can distort historical and communal facts.”

AKIN OMO AKIN also said, “Nobody named it Charlyboy bus stop in the first place, Charlyboy named it after himself without any authorization from the local government.”

OG Beeperl reacted by saying, “Baddo is kuku greater than Charly wayray and his entire generation anyway.”
