The high-level Federal Government delegation to the United States of America, led by National Security Advisor Malam Nuhu Ribadu, is actively combating false narratives that suggest religious persecution in Nigeria, according to Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris.

“We are not leaving any space for misinformation to stand. Our officials are in Washington with facts, data, and a clear message, which is that there is no government-sponsored persecution of any religious group in Nigeria,” said Idris in a Saturday night interview on Politics Today on Channels TV.

The Minister clarified that the powerful Nigerian delegation currently in the US has met with the Secretary of War, members of the US Congress, State Department officials, and other American stakeholders. They have also received evidence-based information about Nigeria’s security challenges and given thorough briefings on counterterrorism operations, interagency security coordination, and efforts to protect all Nigerian citizens, regardless of faith or ethnicity.

They have also received evidence-based information about Nigeria’s security challenges and given thorough briefings on counterterrorism operations, interagency security coordination, and efforts to protect all Nigerian citizens, regardless of faith or ethnicity.

The Minister claims that these interactions are essential for dispelling myths that have been exaggerated in recent congressional debates and advocacy initiatives.

“Our mission is simple, we are showing our partners the full context of the security situation, the steps the government is taking, and the fact that extremists have killed both Christians and Muslims. These narratives of genocide are not only incorrect, they are dangerous” he said.

The Minister clarified that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu takes the situation very seriously and has increased international collaboration to bolster intelligence and counterterrorism efforts in addition to fortifying Nigeria’s domestic security framework.

According to him, the delegation’s mission highlights President Tinubu’s government’s will to protect Nigeria’s standing and make sure that global partners base their choices on factual facts rather than biased accounts.

He underlined that Nigeria and the US still have a solid connection and that the interactions show how receptive the Tinubu administration is to communication, cooperation, and openness. As part of an organized government-wide response to the false information spreading about Nigeria’s security realities, he stated that additional follow-up meetings are anticipated in the upcoming days.

The Minister asked Nigerians to maintain their composure and gave the people the assurance that the government will keep fighting insecurity while simultaneously interacting with the international community to guarantee that Nigeria is fairly represented on the world arena.
