Clark urges PDP to probe Wike’s anti-party activities

Chief Edwin Clark, a former federal commissioner for information and leader of the South-South, has called for the creation of a disciplinary committee to look into the perceived anti-party activities of former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and other individuals whose roles contributed to the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) loss in the 2023 elections.

Wike, the incumbent minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is the PDP’s biggest opponent, manipulating it with the intention of destroying it, according to a statement made by Clark on Wednesday in Abuja.

The elder statesman demanded that the PDP’s current National Working Committee, NWC, be dissolved immediately.

He said that the party’s constitution should be followed in appointing an acting national chairman following the NWC’s dissolution, citing a precedent set by Prince Uche Secondus’s tenure, who was still a court fixture.

The head of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum, SMBLF, lamented that some overzealous party members had taken over the organisation for their selfish gain and advised the party to immediately review the online member registration process, which was started by the former National Chairman, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, in order to prevent the party from relying on individuals.

Clark believed that if Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president and 2023 presidential candidate, is made the candidate for the 2027 elections, PDP would vanish as the nation’s second major party.

Clark said, “I know that many people who read this article will say to themselves that they thought Chief Edwin Clark said he has retired from active and partisan politics. Yes, I said I have resigned from partisan and active politics. But it was one of the famous philosophers, Aristotle, who said, “Man is by nature a political animal.” He went on to narrate that because no human can flourish on their own, there is a natural tendency of man to partner with their fellow men.”

He mentioned that one of the partnerships is that which is related to the polis, the Greek word for community, from which political partnership originates. He emphasised that he will continue to speak on issues of governance and politics as long as God sustains his physical and mental life, particularly when such matters have the potential to affect the country negatively
