On Wednesday, five individuals were arraigned at the Abakaliki Magistrates’ court in connection with the alleged murder and robbery of a truck worth N39 million that belonged to Dr. Eni Uduma-Chima.

Amarachi Irem, 27, Oledi Philip-Nsi, 26, Ogbu Nkama, 22, Chibueze Nnachi, 36, and Okoro Stanley Onuu, 39, are among the suspects.

The suspects are charged with four counts: unauthorized firearm possession, armed robbery, conspiracy, and murder.

In addition to the other allegations, Oledi Philip Nsi, one of the accused, was charged with attempting to kill Eni Uduma Chima at Ekoli-Edda on June 1, 2025.

According to Eze Ndubuaku, the police prosecutor, the suspects committed the crimes on July 9 in Ndienworo village, which is located in the Ekoli Edda local government area of Ebonyi.

According to Ndubuaku, the defendants committed an offense punishable by section 324 of the Criminal Code Cap 33 Vol. 1 Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria 2009 by plotting to commit murder.

“They also did kill one Udu Nnachi-Orji, ‘m’ by shooting him with a gun, which caused his death and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 33 Vol. 1 Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria 2009.

“The suspects also robbed a truck valued at thirty-nine million naira only (₦39,000,000.00), property of Eni Uduma Chima,” he added .

The defense attorney, Mr. Sunday Ajah, asked the judge to release the suspects on bond.

However, Mrs. Sandra Onyibe, the Chief Magistrate, denied the bail request and postponed the case till October 2 in order to obtain a report on compliance.

The Magistrate claims that the court does not have the authority to release them on bail.

Elders from the Ekoli-Edda community have praised the Nigeria Police Force’s leadership, specifically CP Adaku Uche-Anya, for the professionalism of her team’s arrest, charging, and remanding of the suspects in relation to the Ekoli-Edda community’s crises.

Etta Egor, one of them who talked to reporters, commended the CP for supposedly defying all political pressure from high places to make sure that those responsible for the community’s horrible crimes were held accountable.

“We commend the CP and the investigating officers very highly for their professional conducts. Even though some are still on the run, we have confidence that they will all be netted. At pm least peace and calm have returned to Ekoli since these arrests and prosecutions began”, he maintained.
