Former Senate President David Mark and former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola have been sworn in as the African Democratic Congress’s (ADC) Interim National Chairman and Secretary, respectively.

The ceremony took place during the 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.

Sen. Mark made a commitment to support internal democracy, transparency, and the inclusion of women and youth in his remarks following the inauguration. He said that he would reserve 35% of leadership positions for women and make sure that young people under 40 are actively involved.

In addition, the former military administrator of Niger State declared the establishment of a 50-member Policy Committee to examine the party’s platform and promote reforms in important areas.

“I assure you that under my leadership, we shall be committed to full democratic practices and principles that abhor imposition and special privileges. Internal democracy, transparency, and accountability will be our mantra,” he said.

Ralph Nwosu, the party’s outgoing chairman, praised the group for standing its own against financial incentives and pressure to create a one-party state in Nigeria.

“ADC said no to dictatorship. We stood our ground for democracy,” he stated.

According to ZINGTIE, a vote was approved to disband the previous NWC and BoT, allowing the new leadership to take full responsibility until new congresses are convened. Expelled members were rehabilitated during the conference, with the exception of 2023 presidential contender Dumebi Kachikwu.
