The ongoing divorce procedures between Nollywood actor Yul Edochie and his first wife, May Edochie, have taken a worrying turn in an unexpected development. Emeka Ugwuonye, May’s attorney, has stepped forward to discuss the problems in the divorce process.
The attorney claims that Yul Edochie has suddenly stopped paying the child support he had been giving his children with May. The attorney disclosed that Yul has ceased to pay his children’s school tuition, putting the family in a vulnerable financial position.
Moreover, the attorney revealed that Yul dared to inform his firstborn daughter, Danielle, that he would no longer provide for her and her siblings since May Edochie, their mother, makes more money than he does. It makes sense that the family is upset by this heartbreaking revelation and is now doubting Yul’s dedication to his parental duties.
The divorce attorney continued by highlighting the sharp difference between Yul’s behaviour and that of Ned Nwoko, another well-known Nigerian. The politician Nwoko has up to five spouses, but his attorney noted that he obediently provides for all his kids, including covering their tuition. On the other hand, Yul’s callous disdain for his kids’ welfare is alarming.
The attorney also charged Yul with persistently trying to persuade May’s kids to agree with his choice to marry Judy as his second wife. As a result of Yul’s relentless attempts to “re-engineer” the kids’ brains, his oldest daughter, Danielle, distanced herself from him by taking down all references to him on social media and changing her last name.
In her statement, the attorney said, “Yul told his daughter that their mother is making more money than him now. Can you imagine? So you’re going into polygamy but you can’t take care of the children. You want to try polygamy?”
The attorney underlined how Yul’s behaviour radically differs from Ned Nwoko’s, who follows the law in the nation. However, Yul is charged with breaking the law and then trying to fabricate an account of it in court.
He said, “So, please don’t compare the two [Ned Nwoko and Yul]. The reason nobody is criticising Ned is because he complies with the laws of the country. We may criticize the law, I can criticize the law, I have problem with the Nigerian law. But you see it as the law. Ned kept to the law. Yul did not keep to the law. Yul violated that law. Yul is a coward. He knew he violated the law, so he went the court and lied.”
The divorce issue has become a hot topic in the media, with many people lamenting Yul’s seeming failure to fulfil his parenting duties. Concerns regarding the responsibilities and obligations of those who opt for polygamous partnerships have been brought up by the circumstances, especially about the well-being of their children.
The public is anxiously awaiting the conclusion of this intricate and highly controversial divorce case, which has brought child support, polygamy, and familial responsibilities into the national spotlight. The divorce processes are still ongoing.
“Something else you people don’t understand but you got to understand now. Ned [Nwoko] is taking care of all his children, he’s paying their school fees, he’s feeding them. Yul is not doing that. Yul is not supporting his children as we speak. He’s not, at all.”
“Yul told his daughter that their mother is making more money than him now. Can you imagine? So you’re going into polygamy but you can’t take care of the children. You want to try polygamy?”
“So, please don’t compare the two [Ned Nwoko and Yul].
“Why didn’t Yul stand firm in the court and say yes, I married her in accordance with the custom. Why didn’t Yul tell the judge what he tells May? Yul spent time trying to convince May’s children to accept polygamy. Quoting the Bible. Trying to use the Bible and convince his children like, ‘Oh we can be in one big family with Judy and May’. To re-engineer the children’s minds.”
