Did President Tinubu agreed to restore Biafra? Fact emerges

Numerous posts on the well-known social media platform Facebook assert that the Bola Tinubu administration has consented to the secession of Nigeria’s southeast states.

This assertion surfaced amidst persistent calls for creating a new nation by some Nigerians, both domestically and internationally. The intended nation is now known as “Biafra.”

“Tinubu asks Biafra to go for peace to reign: The heat of Biafra hits presidency so hard that as a matter of urgency speaks on Biafra freedom,” says one of the posts.

It includes a screenshot of an article claiming credit for the media platform, The Punch, a Nigerian newspaper, with its logo.

The screenshot’s caption reads: “Presidency speaks on Biafra, we can’t give out south-south. If the 5 south-eastern states want to go, they are free.”

Is this claim accurate, though? Africa Check, a fact-checking website, decided to look into it.

After releasing its findings, the platform said that if this development were real, it would have garnered national and worldwide media attention.

It stated: “But we found no report of it.”

It decided that there was no proof the government had consented to the secession of the states in the southeast.
