The National President of the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti Alumni Association, Dr Oyedokun Abiodun, has expressed deep concern over the destruction of facilities at the school due to a rainstorm on Friday. Abiodun described the incident as “devastating” and noted that it follows a similar incident last year, making the current situation “even more critical and demanding immediate intervention”.

“The damage inflicted upon our beloved institution is extensive, as numerous buildings and vital teaching equipment, including classrooms, hostels, laboratories, offices, ICT infrastructure and electric poles, suffered damage estimated at several hundred million naira,” Abiodun stated.

He appealed to President Bola Tinubu, Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State, the National Emergency Management Agency, and the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, for support and assistance in rehabilitating and reconstructing the damaged facilities. “We implore the National Emergency Management Agency and the Minister of Education to promptly assess the damage and provide the necessary resources for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of our facilities,” he said

Abiodun also made a special appeal to mothers across Nigeria, referencing Senator Oluremi Tinubu as a symbol of compassion, to intervene and support the students who are experiencing discomfort and anxiety due to the destruction. “The discomfort and anxiety experienced by our students during this period are palpable. In light of this, I make a special appeal to all mothers across Nigeria… to alleviate the hardship faced by our students,” he said.

The alumni president called on alumni members to come to the aid of the institution, fulfil previous pledges, and contribute generously towards rebuilding the polytechnic. He also extended an appeal to private companies, non-governmental organisations, development agencies, and philanthropic individuals for support. “Your timely assistance will not only restore our infrastructure but also reinstate a conducive learning environment for our students, ensuring the continuation of their academic pursuits without undue disruption,” he stated.

“We are confident that with the collective support of the government, our esteemed alumni, compassionate mothers across Nigeria, and other well-meaning organisations, Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti will rise again stronger and more resilient,” Abiodun concluded.
