dRPC announces 17 Nigerian NGOs to receive N5 million donation

The Development Research and Project Centre (dRPC) has awarded N5 million each to 17 Nigerian non-profit organisations under its NGO Support Initiative (NSI). The initiative, backed by the Ford Foundation, aims to sustain the work of local civil society organisations in the face of recent funding cuts by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

According to Judith-Ann Walker, Executive Director and Founding Member of dRPC, “Nurturing and enabling and strengthening Nigerian civil society organisations is our mission, it is what we believe in and it’s what we do as our piece of work

The initiative provides financial support and capacity-building mentorship to participating organisations. Walker noted that the programme would run for three months and urged participants to demonstrate the impact of the small grants on their communities. “Continued support, including a second cohort in September, would depend on how well the current recipients utilise the opportunity,” she added.

The selection process saw 17 NGOs chosen, exceeding the initial plan of 10, due to the high quality of applications received. Each organisation will receive N5 million in funding and capacity-building support to strengthen their work despite current funding challenges.
