After his wife posted lavish vacation pictures online, revealing his locations, an American drug gang ringleader was apprehended.

According to Nicaragua’s La Prensa, Luis Manuel Picado Grijalba, 43, was detained at a London airport in December on suspicion of transporting cocaine from Limón, Costa Rica to the United States.

According to Randall Zúñiga, director of Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Department (OIJ), Grijabla, also known by his moniker “Shock,” was wanted by the US Drug Enforcement Administration for several months for allegedly being involved in international drug trafficking.

Before his arrest, Grijabla, a naturalised Costa Rican citizen, had intended to celebrate the New Year with his family in England after meeting his bride in Paris.

According to The Sun, Estefania McDonald Rodriguez, Grijabla’s wife, posted multiple times to a since-deleted Instagram account while travelling throughout Europe in order to chronicle the trip.

The couple was shown posing beneath Paris’s Eiffel Tower in one post.

Rodriguez regularly visited overseas and shared her experiences on social media, according to Zúñiga, the outlet claimed.

In Rome, she sat in front of the famous Trevi Fountain, and she boasted about her holidays on sunny beaches, where she was seen carrying two parrots.

According to Costa Rican publication Teletica, DEA agents, who had been following Grijabla since he departed from Juan Santamaría Airport in Costa Rica, utilised the couple’s Paris post to locate the accused drug lord.

After the DEA secured an international warrant, the arrest was authorised.

Because the Central American country forbids the extradition of its residents, the American agency preferred to apprehend Grijabla in Europe rather than Costa Rica.

According to the Sun, Grijabla was in court the day after his arrest and is presently contesting his extradition to the US, where he might be sentenced to a lengthy prison term.

Carlo Diaz, the attorney general of Costa Rica, commended the DEA’s arrest but pointed out that Grijabla was not facing any charges from his agency.

“For us, it is also an important capture, because we had not yet been able to attribute any criminal act to him in our country, but I repeat, he has been linked in some investigations to drug trafficking in Limón,” Díaz, according to Teletica.

Officials in the nation were split about the foreign capture; President Rodrigo Chaves Robles and Security Minister Mario Zamora both questioned the OIJ.

“It is outrageous that the Costa Rican police, I mean the Judicial Investigation Agency, the Judiciary, and the Attorney General’s Office, with everyone knowing what Shock does, do not even have an open case against him, while the gringos leave the country and capture him in London. What do the gringos have that the OIJ does not have? Is it decency?” Chaves questioned, according to La Teja.

Zúñiga rebutted claiming the DEA had an interest to apprehend the people suspected of harming its country’s inhabitants.

“There is an investment. The rulers are crystal clear that the DEA is very important to prevent the scourge of drugs,” he said.
