Nasir El-Rufai, a former governor of Kaduna State, has stated that he ought to have been kicked out of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
El-Rufai stated he asked them to “eat the party if it is food” after quitting the APC.
El-Rufai recently switched to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) from the APC.
The former governor attributed his defection to the SDP to a disconnect between his personal values and the APC’s current course.
El-Rufai criticized the APC leadership, emphasizing that the party had deviated from the progressive principles of its founders.
El-Rufai claimed that being kicked out of the APC would have spared him the trouble of having to defend himself in an interview with BBC Hausa Service.
According to El-Rufai: “Well, it would have been better for me if they expelled me. I have stated many times that APC would be my last political party.
“Had they expelled me, they would have saved me the troubles of explaining why I left the APC. As I said, I have not left the APC, but the APC rather left me.
“What next? I quit their party, and challenged them to eat the party if it is food.”
