On Sunday, residents of Okposi-Ukwu community in Ohaozara Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, peacefully protested the death of Master Ebuka Chukwu, a Senior Secondary School 2 student at Federal Government College, Okposi.
The protesters, carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Who killed Ebuka?”, “Evil people are running FGC Okposi,” and “IGP, stop the killing and bring justice,” demanded answers and government intervention.
Representing the community, Mr. Collins Agwu expressed both sorrow and anger over the killing, urging for an immediate autopsy to determine the true cause of Ebuka’s death.
Agwu claimed the student was murdered before his body was disposed of in a river to conceal the crime. He also questioned why a college staff member, Mr. Danjuma, reportedly instructed Ebuka and other students to face off against criminals.
“We want justice to prevail, and those behind Ebuka’s death to be unmasked,” Agwu said. “The school management is playing politics with this incident.”
Chiadikaobi Obasi, a community member, condemned the alleged mistreatment of local students and staff by the school’s management, warning that the peaceful Okposi-Ukwu community will not tolerate such actions.
Mr. Ojima O. Emmanuel, the Vice Principal of the college, expressed shock at the incident and assured the protesters that the school would work to clarify the circumstances of Ebuka’s death.
SP Joshua Ukandu, Public Relations Officer for the Ebonyi State Police Command, confirmed the investigation is ongoing, with three suspects detained in connection to the case.
According to reports, the incident took place on July 27, 2025, when Mr. Danjuma allegedly sent students, including Ebuka, to confront hoodlums, which resulted in the student’s death.
