Edo crisis: I’ve sued Obaseki, others for N50bn — Phillip Shaibu

Reinstated Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu announced that the State Government, Commissioner for Communication and Orientation Chris Nehikhare, and Crusoe Osagie, Special Advisor on Media Project, are the targets of a N50 billion defamation and contempt of court complaint.

According to ZINGTIE, Philip Shaibu told reporters this as he was responding to the Federal High Court of Abuja’s decision to reinstate him.

According to Shaibu, the court ruling that resulted in his reinstatement was mandatory and declaratory.

He continued by saying that the ruling permanently barred the state government and its agents from obstructing him from carrying out his responsibilities as the state’s sole deputy governor.

He stated that the ruling further stated that the deputy governorship is established by the relevant sections of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was never vacant.

“I am not surprised that Nehikhare and Osagie were insisting that I remain impeached. They insisted so because they don’t read and study the court judgement before sending out their responses, which is their mode of operation.

“The judgement reinstating me was declarative and has to be carried out before an appeal over the matter could be heard, while the stay of judgement execution filed by the state cannot see the light of the day until the judgement is executed.

“I have already instituted a N50 billion suit against the governor, Nehikhare and Osagie for defamation. They will be served next week,” he said.

However, Shaibu claimed that the gun attack on him was part of a plot to kill him, masterminded by the state’s governor, Godwin Obaseki.

He refuted the allegation that he was the mastermind of the attack that killed Inspector Akor Onuh at the Benin Airport.

“I was taken aback by the attack. In the last one year, I have refused to call for a protest to avoid confrontation with the state government and their agents.

“I can tell you that Thursday’s attack was planned by the state governor to assassinate me. The governor vowed to destroy me when I remained resolute to vie for the position of governor.

“They said I was the one who planned the attack but I came in peacefully from Abuja to the state capital. Why were the armed thugs laying ambush for me? Were they expecting a visitor? he said.
