Tony Elumelu, Chairman of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, UBA Group Plc, and Heirs Holdings, has urged global leaders to support young African entrepreneurs in driving the continent’s transformation.

Speaking at the Legacy Builders Palm Beach Conference in Florida, US, Elumelu emphasised the critical role African youths play in shaping the continent’s future. This vision, he noted, inspired the creation of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, dedicated to empowering African entrepreneurs.

“Today, we’ve empowered 2.5 million Africans through training on our online portal, TEFConnect, and lifted over 2 million individuals out of poverty,” Elumelu said. “We’ve also disbursed over $100 million in direct funding to 21,000 beneficiaries, creating 1.5 million jobs and generating $4.2 billion in revenue across Africa.”

Elumelu acknowledged that the Foundation cannot achieve its goals alone, highlighting partnerships with organisations like the EU, UN, Red Cross, and Ikea Foundation.

He emphasised that every young African with a dream deserves a fair shot at realising it, stressing the need for knowledge-sharing, mentorship, and network-building to support entrepreneurs.

“Africa will not rise by chance; it will rise through deliberate action,” Elumelu said. “We must create a continent where young entrepreneurs are propelled forward by opportunity, not held back by systemic barriers.

Consequently, Elumelu appealed to participants, “I invite each of you to explore how you can be part of our mission to drive meaningful and sustainable impact. Together, we can transform the African continent, one entrepreneur at a time.”
