Emir of Dass send strong warning to everyone

The Dass Local Government Area in Bauchi State is working to lessen the consequences of climate change, and as part of that effort, the Emir of Dass, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman II, has advised locals to avoid from destroying trees carelessly.

Following a symbolic tree-planting event at the Dass Emirate Council in Bauchi State in honour of the Great Green Wall Day of 2024, the emir made the announcement.

During his speech, the emir underlined how crucial it is for his community to continue making contributions to the fight against desertification and other environmental issues.

Bilyaminu Othman II expressed worry about the serious environmental risks posed by destroying trees for the production of charcoal.

His words: “Protecting the environment is part of our role. We continue to urge our people to plant trees and stop felling them as a means to protect our environment against desert encroachment.

“It is essential for the leaders of our communities to ensure that everyone is committed to planting and nurturing trees to curtail deforestation.”

Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed, the state’s coordinator for the Great Green Wall, expressed concerns in her remarks over the careless felling of trees without any replacements.

She urged everyone who would benefit to use charcoal as little as possible.

She claims that the agency provided CNG cooking gas cylinders for home use in order to lower the hazards associated with using charcoal, in line with federal efforts to promote safer and more alternative cooking techniques.

According to ZINGTIE, the 2024 Great Green Wall event featured the planting of enhanced economic trees in a number of Bauchi State government ministries, departments, and organisations, as well as in traditional and religious institutions.
