A well-known Enugu politician and former senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Princess Adaku Ogbu Aguocha, widely referred to as Ada Ogbu, has officially withdrawn her membership from the party.

She had been an active member of the APC for a period of 14 years.

Her resignation was communicated in a letter dated December 30, 2025, and addressed to the APC Caretaker Ward Chairman of Nara Ward I in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The development has quickly generated political discussions, largely due to its timing and the rising trend of prominent defections associated with Peter Obi’s movement toward the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In the resignation letter, Princess Adaku Ogbu Aguocha stated that she was leaving the APC after 14 years of committed involvement, explaining that her decision was influenced by “evolving realities” and a reassessment of the most effective way to serve her constituents. She described the move as both difficult and intentional, noting that it followed wide-ranging consultations with her family, friends, and political allies.

Popularly known within Enugu political circles as Ada Ogbu, Princess Adaku Ogbu Aguocha has long been regarded as one of the APC’s most visible figures in the state, particularly during periods when the party struggled to gain strong electoral footing in the South-East.

She joined the APC at its early formation stage and steadily advanced through the party ranks, serving as a grassroots mobiliser, party organiser, and vocal promoter of the party’s ideals in Enugu State.

She is also among the earliest indigenes of Enugu State to align with the APC.

Ada Ogbu later emerged as the party’s candidate for the Enugu East Senatorial District, a contest that elevated her profile as one of the APC’s most recognisable flag-bearers in the zone.

In her letter, she expressed appreciation for the opportunities, exposure, and leadership experience gained during her years in the party, noting that these experiences deepened her understanding of public service and democratic duty.

Although she has exited the APC, she adopted a peaceful tone in her message, thanking party leaders, members, and supporters, and clarifying that her decision should not be seen as animosity toward those she had worked with over the years.

Her resignation coincides with the day Peter Obi is expected to publicly collect his ADC membership card in Enugu State, a move widely viewed as a significant step toward strengthening an opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In recent weeks, several politicians from different political parties have left their former platforms to align with the ADC, a trend analysts increasingly describe as part of the expanding “Peter Obi wave.”

Although Princess Adaku Ogbu Aguocha did not disclose her next political destination in her letter, political observers believe her departure from the APC at this time places her among key figures being closely monitored as potential entrants into the emerging ADC-led opposition bloc.

Enugu State, long regarded as an area with strong opposition sentiment against the APC, is expected to play a symbolic role in Obi’s entry into the ADC.

Ada Ogbu’s decision therefore adds further significance to the ongoing political shifts taking place in the South-East.

As at the time of filing this report, Princess Adaku Ogbu Aguocha has not publicly announced her defection to any other political party.

However, with Peter Obi’s ADC membership card collection scheduled for today in Enugu, anticipation remains high that additional political declarations may emerge in the coming days.

For now, her exit from the APC stands out as one of the most notable political developments in Enugu State as 2025 comes to an end, reinforcing the perception that Nigeria’s opposition landscape is entering a critical period of realignment.
