Enugu community leader, Eneoli remanded in prison over alleged vandalism

Emmanuel Eneoli, the former president general of Udi town in the Udi local government area of Enugu State, has been placed on remand by an Enugu North magistrate court.

The community leader was remanded to the Enugu jail institution on Monday by Magistrate S.O. Chukwuani for allegedly damaging the community’s electrical equipment, among other offences.

Mr. Eneoli and others are facing additional charges in the case with charge number: MEN/3C/2025, including inciting a local conflict against certain community members.

The four-count charge reads;

“That you Emmanuel Eneoli ‘m’ and others now at large between the months of April and December 2024, at Umuoka community in Udi, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did conspire to commit felony to wit: promoting local war and inciting violence; you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 495(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004,

“COUNT II: That you Emmanuel Eneoli ‘m’ and others now at large, on or about the same date, place and within the aforesaid Magisterial District did without lawful authority, advised and aided the carrying out of, warlike undertaking against Chief Benjamin Onyia, who is the incumbent Chairman of Umuoka community, Chief Flavor Eze and other leaders of Umuoka community; you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 86 of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004.

“COUNT III: That you Emmanuel Eneoli `’m’ and others now at large, on or about the same date, place and within the aforesaid Magisterial District did conspire to commit felony to wit: Vandalism, you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 6 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap M17 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

“COUNT IV: That you Emmanuel Eneoli ‘m’, and others now at large, on or about the same date, place and within the aforementioned District did willfully and unlawfully tampered, damaged, removed, interfered with electric fittings/powerline connected to Electric plant used for transforming electricity for Umuoka community, you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 9 the Miscellaneous Offencess Act Cap M17 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.”

For a follow-up hearing, the magistrate postponed the case until February 3, 2024.
