Peter Mbah, the governor of Enugu State, has denied rumors that he was quitting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emphasizing that he is still very much a member of the party.
The governor presented the counterargument during a Saturday interactive session with Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE) members in Enugu.
“I am still in the PDP, as you can see, the flag behind me is that of the PDP,” he said.
Mbah acknowledged the difficulties facing the PDP but emphasized that the party was not the only one facing crises in the nation, and he expressed hope that the party would soon find a solution.
Regarding independent candidacy, the governor stated that there is no recognition or provision in the constitution for someone to run as an independent.
“So you must still do the politics as you cannot completely shield yourself from it.
“It is also clear from the people of Enugu State that we are in this to serve them. So we have focused largely on governance.
“I believe that at the end of the day, the people would have to decide whether they want to renew our mandate or kick us out,” he added.
Mbah also disclosed that Mr. Chijioke Edeoga, his opponent in the 2023 Enugu gubernatorial race, had rejoined the party to work with him to advance Enugu State.
