Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade has been dubbed the worst signing in Premier League history by Adrian Durham, a presenter for TalkSPORT.
Woltemade transferred to Newcastle from Stuttgart, a Bundesliga club, for £69 million.
The Germany international was brought in to fill the void left by Alexander Isak’s departure from Newcastle to Liverpool.
The 24-year-old had a promising beginning at Newcastle, netting five goals in his initial 10 matches.
His performance has declined in recent months, as he has only managed to score once in 17 matches this year.
In the last games for Newcastle, Woltemade was even put on the field as a central midfielder further back.
“Nick Woltemade, I am going to say this that he is the worst signing in Premier League history. This is not anything against him, it is not personal – I hear he is a very good teammate,” Durham said as quoted by Metro.
“But £65-70 million for one of those, and we have got to delve deeper. I was in Newcastle the other night for the Qarabag game, the tie was done, so it was a chance for players to shine, and it was a night Newcastle had a free hit. Their expensive striker needs goals, and he starts in central midfield.”
Durham’s comments follow Newcastle legend Alan Shearer’s recent criticism of Woltemade.
