Elon Musk’s father, Errol, has stated that his billionaire company wants to purchase Liverpool but is worried that the Premier League team’s current owners, Fenway Sports Group, may increase the price.
Elon, who already owns Tesla and X, is worth about £340 billion, and he is eager to put some of that money into the Merseyside company.
Musk’s father, however, add that there are worries that, in the event of a potential sale, FSG will attempt to extract more money from the richest man in the world.
He added, “I can’t comment on that, they’ll raise the price!” in response to a Times Radio question about if his son wanted to purchase Liverpool.
“Oh yes, [he has expressed a desire], but that doesn’t mean he’s buying it.
“He would like to yes, obviously. Anybody would want to – so would I.
“His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have relatives in Liverpool, and we were fortunate to know quite a few of the Beatles because they grew up with some of my family. So, we are attached to Liverpool you know.”
FSG took over from George Gillett and Tom Hicks in 2010 and Liverpool are allegedly valued at £4.3bn.
But Musk is worth 80 times more than that. If a bid came the club’s way, they may have to examine it.
