Liverpool are on the verge of clinching the Premier League title and could be crowned champions as early as Wednesday night.
The Reds extended their lead at the top of the table to 13 points over second-placed Arsenal, following a narrow 1-0 victory against Leicester City. Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the decisive goal at the King Power Stadium, bringing Arne Slot’s side to within three points of sealing the championship.
Liverpool’s title win could be confirmed sooner if Arsenal fail to beat Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium tonight. Should the Gunners lose, the Merseyside club would be officially declared champions.
However, if Arsenal manage to win, they would reduce the gap to 10 points—though they’ve played one more game than Liverpool.
With five fixtures remaining for the Reds, they would then need to defeat Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield next Sunday to mathematically secure the league title.
In the case of a draw between Arsenal and Palace, Liverpool wouldn’t be crowned champions just yet, as Arsenal would remain 12 points behind with a possible 12 points still available. However, Mikel Arteta’s team would also need to overturn a 10-goal deficit in goal difference to overtake Liverpool a tall order.
