Nicky Butt, a former Manchester United player, has revealed his preference for the club’s incoming manager, arguing that the next manager must fire Erik ten Hag’s £50 million signing, Manuel Ugarte.
United are looking for a new manager after Amorim was fired on Monday for criticizing the club’s leadership.
Amorim had won two league titles with the renowned Portuguese club Sporting before coming to Old Trafford, but there was no evidence of that experience or success during his 14 months as manager.
Manchester United finished 15th in the Premier League last season and repeated that trend this season, despite some hints of improvement.
Former United midfielder Darren Fletcher will manage Wednesday’s encounter against Burnley and any subsequent games until the club names a caretaker manager for the remainder of the season.
