Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has stated that his players do not deserve any bonuses at the end of this season, even if they win the Club World Cup.
City are set to face Bournemouth on Sunday, aiming to reach a seventh consecutive FA Cup semi-final.
However, Guardiola’s side faces a challenging task to qualify for the Champions League due to their inconsistent form this season.
The Club World Cup offers a potential prize of £97 million for the winners, which would significantly boost the club’s summer transfer budget.
City, who typically offer seven-figure bonuses to Guardiola and his top players for winning the Champions League, would also reward the team with significant payouts for triumph in the Club World Cup.
“We don’t deserve it this season,” Guardiola said.
“We don’t deserve a bonus this season. If we win, the bonus is for the club. Managers, staff, players—we don’t deserve it. Not even a watch.”
City have been drawn in a group with Wydad, Al Ain, and Juventus for the Club World Cup, and could face Real Madrid in the early knockout rounds.
