Aisha Yesufu, a prominent human rights advocate, has implied that the South-East region is being deliberately singled out.

Her remarks followed the acknowledgment by Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), of technical issues that negatively impacted candidates’ scores in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The Board earlier disclosed that out of the 1.9 million students who took the exam, more than 1.5 million obtained scores below 200 out of a possible 400, prompting widespread concern within the education sector.

Prof. Oloyede revealed that 379,997 candidates from the five South-East states were among those affected, adding that they would be allowed to retake the exam.

Reacting on X, Yesufu expressed strong concerns over the situation, alleging that the South-East is being unfairly treated.

She supported her claims by sharing data highlighting the scale of the issue.

Her post reads, “It is no longer subtle! Even the dead can see that the South East is being targeted!

“Millions of children were killed and today you want to destroy the education of hundreds of thousands of children.”
