Ex-Senate President’s loyalists, others defect to APC in Ebonyi

In the Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, supporters of Anyim Pius Anyim, the former Senate President and secretary to the government of the federation, crossed over over the weekend to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Former PDP members in the state’s Ivo LGA who are Anyim’s loyalists.

Among the defectors are Hon. Livunus Makwe, a former member of the House of Representatives who served two terms; Hon. Oliver Osi, a former member of the House of Assembly who served two terms; and Aja Nwabueze, the Labour Party’s deputy governorship candidate in the state’s general elections in 2023.

Leaders and members of the National Rescue Movement, APGA, All Progressives Grand Alliance, NRM, and other opposition parties in local government are among those who have also defected to the ruling party.

Chief Emmanuel Ajah, chairman of Ivo LGA, and Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, chairman of the APC state, met the defectors.

“The defectors are coming into APC because of the good work of His Excellency the Governor.

“Government is a big institution and APC is large enough to accommodate everyone. We are one big family, we are united. We will give you your dues in the party, and we will carry you along in everything we do,” Ajah stated.

On behalf of PDP defectors, Makwe stated that they were joining the APC to fortify and enhance the party’s value.

He explained that they left the PDP because, in the general election of 2023, the party abandoned zoning. He praised the chairman of the local government for bringing peace back to Ivo LGA.

Ajah Nwabueze, the Labour Party’s deputy governorship candidate in the general election of 2023, and Orji Joseph, the chairman of the NRM in the local government, claimed that Governor Nwifuru’s leadership style had brought the state together and was the reason they were drawn to the APC.

Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, the state APC chairman, urged party members to view defectors as something other than potential replacements inside the party.

“Do not be afraid of competition; it’s only competition that can bring out your best. Nobody has come to dislodge anybody in the party.

“I am happy that the leaders of opposition parties in Ivo have joined APC. With these people, there is no more opposition in Ivo,” he stated.

He vowed that the party would not discriminate against anyone and called for continuing unity and peace within the party.
