The Los Angeles wildfire disaster relief partnership, FireAid, has announced grants totaling $25 million to support long-term recovery efforts following the January wildfires. The funding, distributed under the advisement of the Annenberg Foundation, will support efforts to address financial and housing stability, mental health and trauma services, community information networks, and educational support for displaced children.
The grants will also accelerate environmental remediation, soil testing, construction permitting, and sustainable rebuilding efforts. The latest awards include $16.9 million for recovery efforts and $5.9 million for aid to victims and communities. Additionally, $1 million was awarded to the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation to purchase firefighting vehicles for the communities of Altadena and Pacific Palisades ahead of the upcoming fire season.
This second round of grants brings the initiative’s total awards to $75 million since raising approximately $100 million through a benefit concert earlier this year. According to Michael Flood, president of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, the support from FireAid has been crucial in providing critical assistance to those affected by the wildfires.
“As the wildfires have displaced families and disrupted lives across Los Angeles County, the support received from FireAid has allowed us to continue providing critical food assistance to our neighbors, at a time when it is needed most,” Flood said.
