Firm organises free Health Screening and Safety Support to empower residents in Lagos

Over 500 residents of Fagba, a Lagos suburb, have benefitted from a free blood pressure and sugar screening provided by Selai Gas Medical Outreach. The initiative offered crucial health insights to individuals who might otherwise have had no access to such services.

The six-day outreach, held in Fagba, highlights how private companies can move beyond commercial activities to tackle pressing social challenges. It forms part of Selai Gas’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, which merges corporate commitment with community focus and philanthropy.

According to the company, health and safety awareness remains critically low in many suburban communities. Citing figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Selai Gas noted that “over 40 per cent of low-income households lack access to health education and preventive checks, leaving them exposed to avoidable risks.”

The firm explained that the outreach was designed to address two urgent issues—community health awareness and domestic safety.

Speaking at the event, Selai Gas’ Managing Director, Damilola Owolabi-Osinusi, said: “Selai Gas was founded on more than the provision of energy. We see ourselves as partners in progress with the communities we serve. This initiative is about going beyond business—showing that health, safety, and dignity are as important as the products we sell.”

Beyond health checks, Selai Gas also demonstrated its commitment to household safety and comfort by refurbishing and repainting more than 400 domestic gas cylinders free of charge.

The company described the outreach as a practical expression of its “Beyond Business” philosophy, which treats profitability and philanthropy not as opposing forces but as complementary commitments to society
