Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has awarded Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo Okeke, a 15-year-old autistic artist, N25 million for setting the Guinness World Record for the largest art canvas. Kanyeyachukwu’s artwork, featuring a multi-coloured ribbon and emojis, spanned an impressive 12,304 square meters.
During a meeting at her office, Tinubu commended Kanyeyachukwu for his exceptional talent, saying, “These children often have a singular passion, and parents need to support them in pursuing their interests and aspirations.” She emphasised the importance of using the award to further his education and highlighted her efforts to raise awareness about autism through a recently published book.
The First Lady noted that her Renewed Hope Initiative prioritises women and youth empowerment and champions programs to help young talent flourish. “Through the Renewed Hope Initiative… we have championed programs designed to help young talent flourish, ensuring that every gift is acknowledged and every dream has the chance to be realised,” she said.
The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mukhtar Yawale Muhammed, lauded the First Lady’s supportive gesture. “The journey of Kanyeyachukwu illustrates the incredible potential that can be unlocked when passion aligns with opportunity,” she said, encouraging parents with children with special needs to nurture their unique skills and strengths
