First Lady launches free medical outreach and renames facilities in Bayelsa

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, has launched a free medical outreach programme and inaugurated a renovated cottage hospital and community secondary school in Otuasega community, Bayelsa State. The projects, built by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in partnership with the Renewed Hope Initiative, aim to enhance healthcare delivery and education in the Niger Delta region

The First Lady, accompanied by the Minister of Regional Development, Bayelsa State Governor, and NDDC officials, restated the commitment of the President Bola Tinubu’s administration to provide accessible and affordable healthcare to rural communities. “I am honoured to be in Bayelsa State… to flag off the NDDC medical outreach programme officially, the health insurance scheme, and the distribution of school desks, benches, and textbooks,” she said.

The programme, which benefits nine states in the Niger Delta region, includes a health insurance scheme designed to cover rural communities. Tinubu noted that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on education, health, and social investment

The NDDC/RHI collaboration has provided over 45,000 pre-loaded educational tablets and textbooks to schools in the region. Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong, Chairman of the Senate Committee on NDDC, thanked President Tinubu for his commitment to the progress of the Niger Delta.

The World Health Organisation’s Country Representative, Dr Walter Mulombo, expressed excitement about the Renewed Hope Initiative’s activities and pledged WHO’s support for good health programmes. This marks the third intervention by the collaboration, following the distribution of U-Lesson educational tablets and the launch of the NDDC/RHI Youth Internship scheme.
