Marcelo, a former left-back for Real Madrid, has declared his retirement from football at the age of 36.
The statement was made by the Brazilian on Thursday through a video post on his X account.
“At 18, Real Madrid knocked on my door and I arrived here. Now, I can proudly say that I am a true Madrileno,” Marcelo said.
“My journey as a player ends here, but I still have so much to give to football. Thank you for everything.”
Marcelo is among the most decorated players in the game’s history.
In 2007, the 18-year-old Brazilian joined Real Madrid.
He took home multiple awards, including six La Liga wins and five UEFA Champions League titles.
He departed the Los Blancos at the end of the 2021–22 season to join Olympiacos after being named team captain in 2021.
In 2023, Marcelo rejoined Fluminense, the team he had played for as a youngster.
