The John T. Vucurevich Foundation in Rapid City, South Dakota, has awarded grants totalling more than $1.3 million to four local nonprofits. The foundation, which focuses on community and economic development in the Rapid City area, has a long history of supporting local organisations.
The latest round of grants includes $600,000 to West River Mental Health for its rental assistance voucher programme and $765,000 to the YMCA of Rapid City for its Jump Start childcare programme. Other recipients include Fork Real Community Café and Friends of the Children He Sapa.
According to Crystal Ortbahn, Vucurevich Foundation communications director, the foundation’s mission is to give back to the community. “John Vucurevich was an area banker, and he…decided to give back his funding to the community,” Ortbahn said. “[He] did that [by] establishing this foundation through his funds that he made as a banker to give back in perpetuity.”
Since its founding in 1989, the John T. Vucurevich Foundation has awarded more than $100 million in grants, with nearly $8 million awarded annually since 2007. The foundation’s commitment to supporting local nonprofits has made a significant impact on the Rapid City community
