The North South Power Foundation has presented food items worth millions of naira to the Niger State government for the victims of the recent flood disaster that ravaged Mokwa Local Government Area. The flood, which occurred about two weeks ago, claimed nearly 200 lives, destroyed over 50 houses, and displaced over 3,000 residents.

The foundation’s Corporate Social Responsibility consultant, Hassan Abdullahi, led the team to the Niger State capital to make the donation. The items presented included 50 bags of 25kg rice, 50 bags of 25kg beans, 50 bags of 10kg semovita, 50 cartons of spaghetti, 50 bags of salt, 50 cartons of Maggi, 50 gallons of 5kg Kings oil, and 50 gallons of 5kg palm oil.

“We are here to commiserate with the Niger State government over the unfortunate incident that occurred in Mokwa a few days ago, and in our own little way of identifying with the victims, we are presenting these items,” Abdullahi said. “We pray to God that we do not witness this type of thing again in our lifetime.

The Niger State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Ahmed Suleiman, received the food items on behalf of the state government and thanked the foundation for their kindness. “The victims will get this intervention from the Foundation any moment from now, and we pray that Allah will continue to bless and promote them,” he said.

The donation is part of the numerous interventions from individuals and organizations, including the federal government, which pledged N2 billion for the relocation and rebuilding of affected houses. The state government also made a N1 billion donation, while the Borno State government donated N300 million. Presidential candidate Peter Obi also contributed N20 million to the relief efforts
