Foundation donates solar power systems to Community Health Centres in Ogun State

The Gbemi Akinfenwa Foundation has donated solar power systems to the Magboro Community Health Centre and Mark Theogi Health Centre along the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway in Ogun State. The initiative aims to improve healthcare delivery in grassroots communities by providing a stable and reliable source of electricity.

The Executive Secretary of the foundation, Mrs. Bukola Omololu, said the project is part of the foundation’s commitment to supporting initiatives that uplift communities. “We are proud to be part of the solar energy project at the Community Health Centre, a project that is especially dear to our hearts and one we fondly refer to as our baby project,” she said.

Mrs. Omololu emphasised the importance of stable electricity in healthcare delivery, stating that “most medical equipment, diagnostic tools, and even basic patient examinations rely heavily on electricity.” She added that the solar energy project will help save lives, create a more efficient health system, and ensure a safe and functional environment for both staff and patients.

The Chairman of Markogi LCDA, Mr. Abdulkareem Owolabi, expressed gratitude to the foundation, saying that the solar power system has brought a lasting solution to the health centre’s power supply challenges. “Before now, power supply to the health centre was highly erratic. We relied on a generator to keep things running, which wasn’t sustainable,” he said.

The solar power system includes an inverter, a battery system, and a changeover switch to alternate between NEPA supply, a generator, and the solar system. It is also protected with surge protectors, AVR, and circuit breakers to guard against thunder damage. The system can power refrigerators, charge phones, run fans, and more, providing a great relief to the health centre
