The United States Mission in Nigeria has commended the Akin Fadeyi Foundation (AFF) for its anti-corruption advocacy project, “Corruption Not in My Country.”
In a statement shared on its official X handle on Tuesday, the Mission praised the initiative for advancing transparency and accountability while urging Nigerians to take an active role in building a corruption-free society.
The Mission wrote, “Shout-out to @AFFoundationng’s ‘Corruption Not In My Country’ campaign promoting transparency and accountability — a reminder that the fight against corruption starts with every Nigerian, and together, citizens must demand better, do better, and build a nation where integrity thrives.”
Responding to the recognition in a statement on Wednesday, the project’s convener, Akin Fadeyi, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the endorsement.
He said, “All of us at the Akin Fadeyi Foundation are encouraged by this recognition. We have an irrevocable commitment to consolidate on our little wins, even as we redouble efforts aimed at more robust citizen engagements that galvanise the collective competences of our people against the prevailing paradigms of decadence. We shall continue to do this through innovative and relatable approaches.
Fadeyi also acknowledged the partners, backers, media organisations, and government agencies that have supported the campaign’s growth over the years.
He stated, “Our rise to this little ‘fame’ is not without the untiring support of the MacArthur Foundation, led by Dr. Kole Shettima and his deputy, Amina A. Salihu. We are not less grateful to the Nigerian media, like ZINGTIE.COM, TVC, The PUNCH, Premium Times, The Cable, Federal Government agencies for their partnerships and a host of others through whose support we have thrived. We are certain that our mentor from the MacArthur Foundation, Chicago office, Erin Sines, is proud to share in this US Mission’s recognition of the work we do and in which she has been heavily invested.”
Launched in May 2016, the “Corruption Not in My Country” campaign quickly gained traction with support from global organisations and both traditional and digital media. Over the years, AFF has expanded its initiatives, including the development of the FlagIt App, a tech-driven platform enabling Nigerians to report official misconduct, domestic violence, and cyber abuse.
The Foundation has also built strong institutional collaborations, training the Nigerian Police in 2017, supporting the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and rescuing victims of digital space abuse through it’s interventions.
