The Georgia School of Orthodontics (GSO) has announced a 12-year, $8.5 million partnership with the John and Lillian Miles Lewis Foundation to establish a scholarship programme honouring the late civil rights champion and politician John Lewis. The John Lewis Legacy Scholarship initiative, set to launch in August, will award scholarships of $180,000 over three years to orthodontic residents.
The partnership aims to pay tribute to Congressman Lewis’ lifelong dedication to justice, equality, and education through educational programming and civil rights tours for all orthodontic residents. Over the course of 12 years, the partnership is expected to serve 47 residents.
GSO co-founder and trustee Christopher M. Lazzara expressed his thoughts on the partnership, saying, “It’s humbling to know that GSO has been entrusted to carry on Rep. John Lewis’ legacy. We take the responsibility of upholding his legacy of courage, justice, and service very seriously.” He added, “This is the start of a special partnership with the John and Lillian Miles Lewis Foundation.
