The Dr. Seuss Foundation and the San Diego Foundation have joined forces to launch a groundbreaking early literacy program, Ready to Learn, made possible by a $15 million endowment from the Seuss Foundation. This initiative aims to support early literacy development for young children in San Diego County, building on the organisations’ successful three-year collaboration.
The program’s endowment ensures long-term sustainability and impact on early childhood literacy in the region. To kick-start the initiative, the foundations announced $1 million in grants awarded to three deserving organizations: the American Association of Pediatrics–California Chapter 3, Basic Assistance to Students in the Community, and Boys and Girls Club of Vista
Dr. Seuss Foundation Executive Director Jay Hill expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership. “Dr. Seuss Foundation is excited to deepen our partnership with San Diego Foundation to create lasting change in early literacy.”
Hill emphasised the importance of honouring Theodor Geisel’s legacy through this initiative. “Through Ready to Learn, we’re honouring Theodor Geisel’s legacy by ensuring that the joy of reading reaches children during their most formative years, setting them on a path toward lifelong learning and success.”
