Nigerians are increasingly feeling the weight of escalating fuel costs, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has recognized. He has taken steps to alleviate the effects.

A statement issued to ZINGTIE and signed by Hamisu Muhammad Gumel, the chief press secretary to the Jigawa State Governor, contained this.

According to the statement, the governor revealed this at the Eid-el-Fitr festivities in Dutse, where he spoke to locals after welcoming the Emir of Dutse and other traditional figures at the Hawan Bariki Durbar on Saturday.

He stated that the president is deeply troubled by the situation and has begun to devise plans to mitigate its impact, which include trying to lower transportation costs nationwide.

The governor stated that the recent rise in petroleum prices, associated with ongoing developments in the Middle East, has added further pressure on citizens, especially concerning transportation and the cost of living.

He, however, assured that the Federal Government is aware of the situation, noting that President Tinubu has directed actions to alleviate the hardship.

“The President is aware of the burden this increase will place on our people and has already begun taking measures to reduce the impact, especially in the area of transportation,” Namadi said.

The governor explained that part of the intervention would aim to introduce alternative measures to reduce transportation costs, which have increased due to the rise in fuel prices.

He stated that the Jigawa State Government would enhance federal initiatives by enacting policies and support programs designed to alleviate the economic strain on residents.

Namadi highlighted that even though the present circumstances might be difficult, continued actions from both tiers of government are anticipated to ease the situation and bring stability to citizens’ living conditions.

This follows worries from the public about fuel prices going up and the consequent effect of this on transportation, food costs, and other vital services nationwide.
