The Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI) has released its Unstoppable Africa 2024 Executive Summary, outlining transformative strategies to reshape Africa’s financial narrative and accelerate economic growth. The report emphasises the need for an inclusive financing model, concessional financing, private sector investment, and domestic resource mobilisation to unlock Africa’s potential.

According to Sanda Ojiambo, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and CEO of the UN Global Compact, “The GABI 2024 Executive Summary captures the transformative outcomes of the highly successful ‘Unstoppable Africa’ event… This event has played a crucial role in bringing together key stakeholders to discuss and align on these transformative strategies.” Ojiambo also highlighted the importance of positioning Africa at the centre of global economic transformation and aligning with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2063.

The report promotes public-private partnerships, policy frameworks, and blended finance as keys to clean energy solutions. It also stresses the need for private investment, advancement of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), bridging the digital divide, and equipping youth with digital skills.

GABI’s annual flagship event, Unstoppable Africa, has established itself as a premier Africa-focused event, drawing global leaders and notable figures. The event celebrates significant achievements, such as the Mission 300 initiative, which aims to provide clean energy access to 300 million Africans by 2030.

In the realm of digital transformation, the report highlights Africa’s rapid technological adoption and youthful population as key drivers for economic growth. It also spotlights initiatives like the Queens of the Continent Foundation and the NBA Africa Startup Accelerator Award, which create opportunities for young athletes and entrepreneurs.

GABI plans to host several GABI Bridges events throughout the year, including a side event at the Africa CEO Forum on May 12-13 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The 4th edition of Unstoppable Africa will convene on September 21-22, 2025, in New York City, bringing together stakeholders to develop actionable frameworks for Africa’s development.

As emphasised by the GABI team, “This year’s event will build on the progress made in 2024, focusing on key areas such as energy access, digital transformation, and sustainable economic growth.”

The Unstoppable Africa event has gained significant traction over the years, with the 2024 edition drawing over 4,000 participants, including six Heads of State and Government, 14 Government Ministers, and key figures from the global private sector.

According to Sanda Ojiambo, “The GABI 2024 Executive Summary is not just a reflection of our progress but a call to action for continued collaboration and ambition. We believe that by aligning with the aspirations of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2063, we can unlock the full potential of Africa and contribute to a prosperous future for all.”

The report also highlights the importance of creative industries in driving economic growth. As noted by a GABI spokesperson, “The creative industries, including fashion, film, music, and entertainment, have the potential to deliver jobs, boost tourism, and build the African brand.”

In the sports sector, the report emphasises the need for modern infrastructure and the establishment of continental leagues to enhance economic growth, social cohesion, and cultural diplomacy. “Initiatives like the Queens of the Continent Foundation and the NBA Africa Startup Accelerator Award are creating opportunities for young athletes and entrepreneurs, and we need to see more of such initiatives,” said a GABI representative.

As the Global Africa Business Initiative continues to push for Africa’s economic transformation, its leadership remains optimistic about the continent’s prospects. “We are committed to positioning Africa at the centre of global economic transformation, and we believe that with the right strategies and partnerships, we can unlock the full potential of the continent,” said a GABI spokesperson.
