Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) candidate for governor of Lagos State, has accused the DSS of trying to use its power to pressure Mojisola Meranda, the state assembly speaker, into resigning or stepping aside.
According to Rhodes-Vivour, the DSS agents’ invasion of the Lagos State House of Assembly dealt a serious blow to the state’s political landscape.
The Lagos State House of Assembly was taken over by DSS and Nigeria Police officers on Monday, according to ZINGTIE.
A conflict in the State Assembly’s leadership preceded the invasion.
After MPs impeached Mudashiru Obasa, Meranda just took over as Speaker of the Assembly.
While in the United States, Obasa was impeached.
When he returned to Nigeria, Obasa emphasized that the parliamentarians had not followed proper procedure in his expulsion and had claimed that he was not impeached.
However, Rhodes-Vivour stated that MPs should not be loyal to their godfathers in an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
He said: “It was a major low for politics in Lagos State today.
“What we saw today was an attempt to intimidate the speaker to step aside and resign by using armed men and threats of violence.
“Whoever is behind this should solve this problem in a civilized fashion because the State Assembly must owe its loyalty to its constituents and not any godfather.”
