Germany on Wednesday urged India and Pakistan to refrain from intensifying the current conflict after India carried out missile attacks during the night and Pakistan responded with its own military action.
“After the horrific terrorist attack in Kashmir and the Indian military response, there is an urgent need for both countries to act responsibly,” the German Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on social media.
“Escalation must be prevented and civilians must be protected.”
The German Foreign Ministry mentioned it was maintaining dialogue with both India and Pakistan and emphasized that German authorities were observing the events very attentively.
It also revealed that Germany’s Crisis Response Team would gather to evaluate the ongoing situation and determine any necessary steps.
German nationals present in India and Pakistan were instructed to follow official travel and safety recommendations and to ensure their details were current in the crisis preparedness database.
India earlier reported that it had carried out nighttime air raids on various locations in Pakistan and areas controlled by Pakistan in Kashmir, targeting what it referred to as “nine terrorist locations.”
Pakistan’s military responded by saying that six areas were struck by Indian missiles, resulting in the deaths of 31 people, including five in the Pakistan-controlled Kashmir region, and injuring 46 more.
This rise in hostility between the two countries, both of which possess nuclear weapons, follows an incident on April 22 in Pahalgam, a region within Indian-administered Kashmir, where 26 individuals were killed during an attack.
Indian authorities accused Pakistan of involvement, pointing to cross-border ties, while Pakistan strongly denied having any connection to the violence.
