According to Chioma Afe, Director of External Affairs & Social Performance, Seplat Energy, “The initiative has been sustained by the continued cooperation of the joint venture partners.” Esther Icha, Senior Manager, Corporate Social Investment and Social Performance, added that every part of the program is free of charge, including services for patients with hypertension or diabetes.

The free eye care services included consultations, the provision of reading glasses, cataract surgeries, and health education on conditions such as glaucoma, hypertension, and diabetes. Since its inception, the “Eye Can See” program has recorded 110,634 eye treatments, distributed 55,382 reading glasses, and successfully completed 4,752 cataract surgeries.

The Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, commended the initiative, saying, “More than half of the ailments that lead to permanent loss of sight are treatable, and we thank Seplat Energy and its partners for coming to the rescue.” He noted that the program has positively transformed lives.

The Obkhavbaye of Benin, Chief Ralphael Oronsaye, representing the Oba of Benin, urged the people to take advantage of good initiatives by worthy corporate citizens, while Dennis Laure, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the company for helping them overcome eye-health challenges.

“We’re grateful for this initiative, which has been a game-changer for us,” Laure said, highlighting the impact of the program on the beneficiaries’ lifestyles and means of livelihood
