Gov Yusuf issues fresh orders to Emirs in Kano

To guard against potential attacks on schools and cultural activities throughout the state, including the ongoing KANFEST 2025, the Kano State Government has stepped up security measures.

Speaking at the KANFEST (Kalankuwa) 2025 opening ceremony on Saturday, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf issued the mandate.

In an attempt to preserve Kano’s cultural character, he gave all Emirs in the state instructions to continue the yearly Durbar celebration.

The Durbar and accompanying customary festivities are “symbols of unity and pride” for the Kano people, the governor said in a statement sent by his spokeswoman, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

In order to guarantee that the centuries-old horseback riding custom is maintained, enhanced, and promoted internationally, he promised that his administration would keep helping the Emirates.

He said, “We are committed to empowering our youth and women through cultural initiatives that highlight the creativity and heritage of our people.”

Additionally, Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s dedication to funding the arts, culture, and tourism as means of fostering harmony, involving the youth, and stimulating the economy.

The governor was commended by Dr. Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano and Chairman of the State Council of Emirates, for what he called “a visionary step in restoring the diminished and valuable traditions of the Kano people.”

The three-day KANFEST 2025 includes displays of regional cuisine, cultural performances, traditional games, drama, crafts, textiles, ceramics, and talks by cultural specialists.
