Govt approves transfer of UNIMED Teaching Hospital to FUTA

The Ondo State Government has formally approved the handover of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) Teaching Hospital complex located in Akure to the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

This move sets the stage for UNIMED’s facilities to be integrated into FUTA as its College of Medicine and Teaching Hospital, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s earlier directive authorizing the federal institution to establish such a facility.

The resolution was made during the State Executive Council meeting held in Akure and chaired by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka, clarified that the transfer encompasses the hospital’s buildings, workforce, medical equipment, and existing liabilities.

“All employees of the Akure complex will be absorbed into FUTA Teaching Hospital under the Federal Government. This move aligns with Mr President’s directive for FUTA to establish a College of Medicine and Teaching Hospital,” Ajaka stated.

He further noted that the initiative would significantly enhance healthcare services within the state and elevate FUTA’s standing as a leading institution in medical education and research nationwide.
