Grenade explosion kills three children in Borno

A grenade detonated in Pulka town, Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State, killing three children.

Zagazola Makama, a security analyst, posted the information on X on Friday.

Around 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, the grenade that the victims, Fati Dahiru, Aisha Ibrahim, and Fati Yakubu, were playing with—possibly abandoned by Boko Haram insurgents—exploded.

“A team made up of Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD-CBRN), troops from Operation Hadin Kai, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters quickly arrived at the scene.

“They cordoned off the area and searched for other dangerous devices but found none. The area was then declared safe,” Makama wrote.

“The injured children were taken to General Hospital, Gwoza, where doctors confirmed they had died.

“Their bodies were released to their families for burial according to Islamic rites.”

To prevent such tragedies in the future, authorities asked citizens to report any suspicious objects to security services.
