Health Foundation awards grants to Improve Community Health

The Northern Virginia Health Foundation (NVHF) has announced multi-year grants totaling $2.6 million to support efforts to improve the health and healthcare of residents in the region. The grants will fund projects that deliver primary, oral, and behavioral health, as well as pharmacy services to communities in northern Virginia.

Supporting Community Health Initiatives

The foundation awarded general operating grants of $380,000 each over three years to seven organizations, including the Arlington Free Clinic, Greater Prince William Health Center, and Northern Virginia Family Service. These grants will support efforts to boost access to oral healthcare services, address maternal health needs, expand care for those experiencing domestic and sexual violence, and improve health literacy among communities with high rates of chronic disease.

Empowering Community Organizations

NVHF President and CEO Courtney Rice emphasized the importance of multi-year grants in providing stability and allowing organizations to amplify their impact. “At NVHF, we leverage partner input to inform our grantmaking process and hold ourselves accountable to community needs,” Rice said. “Multi-year grants provide stability in uncertain times, allowing them to hire and retain quality staff, provide more consistent programming to those they serve, and amplify their impact over time.”

Additional Support

The foundation also awarded one-year general operating support grants of $25,000 each to four organizations, including Mother of Mercy Clinic and George Mason University. These grants will further support the foundation’s mission to improve the health and wellbeing of northern Virginia residents.

By providing critical funding and support, NVHF is helping to make a positive impact in the lives of thousands of people in northern Virginia.
