Houthi forces in Yemen have downed another U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone.
The Congressional Research Service estimates the cost of each MQ-9 Reaper drone at around $30 million.
This marks the third time the rebels have brought down such a drone since March 3, and the second incident since the U.S. began conducting daily airstrikes.
Despite the ongoing operations, there have been few updates from President Donald Trump’s administration regarding the status of these strikes. The U.S. has been carrying out daily airstrikes for the past 20 days, but the Pentagon has not provided any public briefings in recent weeks, and the Department of Defense has remained silent about the continuing attacks.
The U.S. State Department previously announced sanctions targeting financial facilitators, procurement agents, and companies involved in a global illicit finance network supporting the Houthis. These measures followed the downing of the first Reaper drone earlier in March.
National Security Advisor Mike Waltz also expressed concerns in a recent interview with CBS, comparing the Houthis to groups like al-Qaeda or ISIS, noting their possession of advanced cruise and ballistic missiles. He pointed out that some of the most advanced air defense systems used by the Houthis are supplied by Iran.
